The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has officially released the admission notification for Class 6 admission into Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in Assam for the academic session 2026–2027. Eligible students currently enrolled in Class 5 during 2025–26 can now register for the JNV Selection Test (JNVST) 2026.
The application process is completely online and free of cost. Students from all 33 districts of Assam can apply, but they must fulfill specific eligibility conditions. The entrance test is scheduled for 13th December 2025, and successful candidates will be admitted to one of the 28+1 JNVs across Assam.
About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas
Launched under the National Education Policy of 1986, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are fully residential co-educational schools, financed and managed by the Government of India through the autonomous body NVS. There are 654 JNVs across the country, including 28 regular and 1 special JNV in Assam.
These schools aim to provide quality modern education to talented students predominantly from rural areas, free of cost.

Who Can Apply – Eligibility Criteria
Residency & Schooling

The student must be a bona fide resident of the district where admission is sought.

Must be currently enrolled in Class 5 in a Government, Government-aided, or recognized school for the academic session 2025–26 in the same district.
Age Limit

The applicant must be born between 1st May 2014 and 31st July 2016 (inclusive).

This applies to all categories including SC, ST, OBC, and General.
Rural Quota

75% of seats in each district are reserved for candidates from rural areas.

Candidates must have studied in Classes III, IV, and V in a recognized school located in a rural area.
Number of Attempts

Only one attempt per student is allowed. Previous applicants cannot reappear.
